{lazy days}

Today is just one of those days where you don't get much accomplished, and you're totally fine with that.  I had two last teeth extracted this morning, so I am declaring today a lazy one. In just a few short days, I get my braces on, and I'm kinda terrified. For those of you who have had braces - any tips?

{sunflares}

You put your eye up to your camera's viewfinder, and are greeted by those luminescent splashes of light in every colour. They dance across the scenery as you move around to get the perfect shot, and when you do, you're reminded of how beautiful the golden hour is.

{iced coffee}

These days, the weather patterns are just all over the place. But whether the sun is brightly shining, or we're in the middle of a thunderstorm, there's nothing like relishing in a cup of iced coffee. Mingled with a bit of brown sugar and cream, it's like capturing Summer in a cup.

{adventuring}

I've always loved exploring. Old buildings. Forests. Lakes. You name it. Fortunately, my Dad is the same way, so Summer is the perfect time to go adventuring together. Cameras in hand, dressed for the wrong occasion {well, me anyways.}, it's always a good time.

Happy Friday, friends.

when i'm with my family...

8.01.2011

...the hours go by far too quickly, but the laughter is inevitably louder and longer.

Sweet baby giggles, trips to the lake, and delicious meals epitomized this much-anticipated family reunion.

Just listening to the adorable things 'the littles' say {ie. "Abbey, you're my best friend."} and watching them play together always makes my day. In fact, it makes my whole Summer.

I must confess, though - my arms felt quite like jello at the end of each day. Hours of baby cuddling, swing-pushing, and piggy-back-giving would be the reason for this. Worth it? Oh, yes.

In the rare moments where I wasn't tracing little bodies with chalk and playing peek-a-boo, I started reading Emma, indulged in tea & coffee, and made {ahem... attempted to make} friendship bracelets with Meadow. Also, I acquired my seventh vintage camera, thanks to a very thoughtful auntie.

Honestly, I'm just so thankful for family.

What's your favourite thing about gatherings? I'd love to know.

Abbey

PS. I'm guest posting over here today. Come & say hello!

a myriad of summer pleasures.

{nostalgia}

I am reading what undoubtedly the sweetest thing I've ever read. When I was a baby, my Mom started documenting each day to me, in a journal. Stories of good & not-so-good days, hysterical moments, and "i love you"s grace the pages, and I find myself smiling & laughing while I read. This journal is such  sweet thing to have. I can't wait to do the same thing some day.

{iced beverages}

It's been sweltering hot in the Prairies, y'all. Seriously. With the humidex, it was 49° C {120° F} today. So, I delight in pretty much anything iced lately. Sun tea, lemonade, iced coffee, water - i'll take it all. Not hot tea for me this week! {Also, I've been saying 'y'all far too much in the past few months. And I love it. Carlotta may be to blame. ;)}

{feathers, please}

Tucked amid my crazy, unruly head of hair, are two feathers. One is red, the other speckled. They're very small & subtle, but I smile whenever I see one out the corner of my eye. {I cannot seem to get a good shot of them, hence the feather earring photo.}

{instagram}

I am still very much in love with Instagram. It's such a simple way to capture beautiful moments.

So, tell me. What little pleasures have been making you smile lately?

and it begins.

6.23.2011

As I write, I am sprawled out on a picnic blanket with nothing but my notebook, camera, and sheer joy.

Today was spent biking back & forth {and then back. and forth again.} to school to write the last of my exams. Some parts were a bit difficult, but I'm pretty sure I did well, overall. My math teacher added problems like 'draw a smiley face here for extra marks', and left little candies under the exams. It made my day. :)

Teacups, the little bunny living under our porch, made yet another appearance today. It seems like every time she {or he?} comes out, I am able to get a little bit closer with my camera.

Speaking of teacups, isn't this one beautiful? My Mom received it as a gift today, and I'm kind of in love with it.

Well, my Summer has officially begun. I am over the moon. :)

To those of you on {or approaching} Summer Holidays, do you have any exciting things planned? Do tell!

Abbey

anticipate.

6.20.2011

As I study for my final exams, it's so hard not to let thoughts of camping, picnics, & walks by the lake consume my mind. Before I know it, I'll be handing in that last exam, and in a split second, schoolwork will become of no importance. My Summer daydreams will finally become reality.

Little things like photographing the beautiful flowers in our garden, wearing feathers in my hair, snacking on delicious homemade rhubarb jam & bread, and frolicking through fancy fountains in the park, make the wait for Summer so much more beautiful.

One more day of classes, and two days of exams left. Summer, here I come!

a glimpse of summer

6.01.2011

The weather in this little part of the Prairies cannot make up its mind. We've had crazy winds, dark clouds, heavy rain, and warm sun in a matter of three days. I'm surprised it hasn't snowed on us!

Today, however, was a perfectly sunny day. It started beautifully. It ended beautifully. I think we may be getting a little glimpse into Summer. And, what better way to take advantage of the lovely weather than to walk home barefoot through the field, to relish in a snack of fresh strawberries and golden oreos, and to take some time to read on the deck?

The evening proved that during the golden hour, life on the ground is just as beautiful as the colours in the sky.

Happy first of June, lovelies! I hope the weather is nice where you are.

Abbey
